Pokhara

Pokhara Nepal - The relaxing town with lakes and mountains and the starting point for several treks to the Annapurnas.
Pokhara valley lies in a scenic six hour drive or a 25 minute flight west of Kathmandu. It is famous for its lakes and its location beneath the towering Annapurna massif. It is highly recommendable to visit this scenic valley, stay in small resort hotels with views of the magnificent Himalayan peaks, go boating on the calm waters of the Phewa and the Begnas lakes or go on tours or day hikes in the nearby hills or if time permits, on a well organized trekking holiday to the base camp of the annapurnas / or at least some short treks to the Annapurna foothills.
Pokhara developed from a small village to a flourishing tourist town after the growth of tourism in the sixties. So there are not any cultural or historical sites to explore in Pokhara. The tour here involves visiting the Davis fall ( waterfall where the water goes underground), a cave nearby and boating in the Phewa lake.
Early morning sunrise tour ( to see sunrise on the panorama of the Himalayas ) and the hike to the nearby hill of World Peace Pagoda are popular activities here. Equally popular is the paragliding from the Sarangkot hill.
You can enjoy treks of one, two or several days from Pokhara to the Annapurna foothills.
Pokhara has several restaurants serving foods from several different countries. A leisurely walk in the market along the Phewa lake or enjoying good foods and drinks at several cafes and restaurants would be a relaxing experience.
12 km east of Pokhara lies another serene lake named Begnas . Very few tourists visit this lake, so it is quiet serene and the countryside is superbly beautiful. If you have enough time, a visit there is recommended.
