Is Nepal Safe?

In the past decade we had a conflict between the government and the Maoist rebels. But after signing the peace accord in Nov , 2006, the conflict has ended and the rebels are now in government.Nepal is now heading for election.Travelling in Nepal is safe and there is no security problem at all.The number of tourists visiting to Nepal this year  has increased from every country , USA , UK , Germany , Japan etc compared to previous years , by upto 200% (from some countries).

More important  is the frequent question , was Nepal unsafe during those conflict  days ? Basically Nepalese are known as peaceful and hospitable people.Even in the height of the conflict , not a single tourist was harmed, beaten , captured or killed in Nepal neither by the maoists nor by anybody else. Of course there were occasional cases of demand of donations by rebels in certain areas but that too has stopped completely. The conflict was always limited among Nepalese themselves , and all were aware not to harm the tourists.

Despite these facts some countries have issued travel advisories discouraging  their citizens to visit Nepal..Our best suggestions to you is keep your mind open, look for the  development, contact the recent travellers – listen what they have to say   and ignore  the silly advisories which do not reflect the realities of the ground at all.
